Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Annie Genevard, Minister for Agriculture, Agrifood and Food Sovereignty of the French Republic
22 September 2026, Rome: The FAO Director-General, Dr QU Dongyu, met today with Her Excellency Annie Genevard, Minister for Agriculture, Agrifood and Food Sovereignty of the French Republic, on the margins of the FAO Global Conference for Actions on One Health in Agrifood Systems at FAO headquarters.
The Director-General welcomed the Minister and thanked France for its continued leadership and support for multilateralism. He highlighted the strong global participation in the One Health in Agrifood Systems Conference and expressed appreciation for France’s commitment to advancing the One Health agenda. The Director-General also acknowledged President Emmanuel Macron’s leadership in convening the One Health Summit in Lyon in April this year.
The Minister recalled their close collaboration and referred to their last exchange at the One Health Summit in Lyon, noting the ongoing challenging international context and commended FAO for the analysis provided regarding global developments. While acknowledging budgetary constraints, she reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting FAO, particularly in the areas of One Health and food security. The Minister also highlighted the severe impacts of the recent summer heatwave, drought and forest fires on French agriculture, emphasizing the growing importance of plant health, forest management and climate resilience.
The pair agreed that the One Health approach should deliver concrete results, and emphasized the important work of the Quadripartite.
